It is no surprise to anyone who knows me that I love hair. To avoid gross references and inappropriate comments I will narrow head hair. It amazes me the depth of conversations that I can have revolving around hair. Just yesterday I had a conversation where I connected my hair care with the green movement with a little help from an NPR story. The story addresses how often Americans wash their hair (twice as often as many Europeans), how often we should wash our hair and then it talks about the "No-poo" movement which entails giving up shampooing completely. One person who gave up shampooing used baking soda as a cleanser and vinegar as conditioner.
While I don't see myself going "No-poo" anytime soon I do think it is important to realize we often do what we do more from habit than t be "healthy." I am trying to get my own hair washing down to twice a week, so if you see me please refrain from calling me a grease-ball, it may take awhile for my hair to adjust. Such comments may not only shatter my self confidence but also contribute to global warming and increase deterioration of the ozone.
Here is a familial etiology of hair:
Grandpa Campbell, he has a fine head of hair and still does to this day. In the picture below he is the one folding his arms.
My mom (in red) also had great hair.

Your whole family has amazing hair. I finally have my hair down to twice a week, but sadly enough it is not because of some global awareness or to make my hair more healthy. I'm a mom! Therefore I would rather spend my time sleeping than washing, drying, and styling my hair. Don't worry! I still shower everyday, I just don't wash my hair. :)
I refuse to change. In fact, I've upped myself to 6 times a day shampooing, just to prove that I won't conform.
Jessica, I aspire to have great hair like yours, and have since we were roommates last summer. I am now further inspired to cut my shampooing down to every other day, but I keep accidentally forgetting not to shampoo my hair. (In fact, I almost put that as my Facebook status the other day, but I thought other people might think it was kind of weird...)
Your grandpa does have awesome hair. He and grandma are always talking about how he needs to get it cut into a crew cut, which I think would be a travesty.
I admit to shampooing every other day, which is 2-3 times a week like the article recommends. Natural curl introduces a whole new variable into the equation.
I'm at about every other day myself...have aimed for that ever since a hair stylist during my BYU days told me I didn't need to shampoo daily. Although, the sweatiness of exercise sometimes causes more frequent shampooing...
Kirst,
It's actually particularly important not to shampoo too often for people with curly hair. I think curly-haired people started the No-Poo movement.
so I have been using dollar shampoo and my hair dresser scolded me and gave me some fancy stuff...and holy cow...what a difference. It got rid of so much build up that it actually changed the color of my hair. weird....
Amen about washing curly hair as little as possible. It just takes to darn long to tame the frizz aferwards.
